marseille s finest dj steef steps up to the plate for the next foto 12 inch, supplying 3 hefty house tracks of varying tempo s and moods. main jam shaking kicks off proceedings with a chopped-up break and kicking groove before a piano-laden mid-section sends the temperature rising. next up freeters hits heavy on the pitch-down vibe with some wonky electronics underpinned by a solid 4/4 low end. over on the flip big bossman the revenge hits back with a trademark stripped-out mix of shaking which is heavy on the machine funk. rounding things off mojica tribe is an altogether deeper number with smooth pads and an ethereal atmosphere

for some it might be kraftwerk, but for me, my favourite electronic pioneers are probably australias severed heads. they were so far ahead of the game that they had to invent a lot of the technology they used. inspired, playful, never boring and always sonically brilliant they pushed at the frontiers of electronic music more than most. by the late 80s they were pursuing a slightly more polished course and made a series of records that had the potential to reach a much larger audience. possibly because of their name they never quite managed that, but they had several big club hits, the dub versions of which crossed over into the nascent house scene. i am honoured that i am able to make the dubs of those three 12 inches from 1988 - 1990 available again.

back at it again, taking the true essence of the “jacking” sound of chicago house and putting it’s own stamp on it is what obsolete music technology has done with their new 12&#8243,, entitled, “volatile.” warbling, wobbling, distorting, sinisterly acidic basslines abound is the best way to describe this release! for dance floors only! you have been warned! “volatile” starts off with some 707 drums intro and then fading in, is this tripped out, bubbling bass sound that sends you off a cliff! just when you think that’s all to the track, dark, melancholic pads comes in for added atmos-fear! rounding out the a-side is “killin,” with it’s 2 acid style basslines, one sounding at a high octave and the other at a lower octave. riffs playing separately sounding great, but when played together, there is something slightly, mentally off. on the b-side, “broken siren” is high energy! 808 tom drums bringing the funky low end while a short, electronic piano lick drenched in warm, fuzzy, flange effect. setting it off is a decayed sine wave, mimicking an actual alarm sound. lastly, “electric current” best describe this distorted acid bassline and its tweaking filter and resonance controls over jacking 808 drums

introducing damien zala... the next promising young frenchman to release on hold youth. although relatively unknown, his first album *lonely happiness* received strong support from theo parrish, norm talley and luke hess amongst others. combining analogue synths and drum-machines with acoustic elements and samples from old records, the trained sound engineer is a rigorous technician aiming to create sophisticated deep house atmospheres. hold youth provide a breeding ground for open-minded and innovative music, and zalas second life ep ticks all the right boxes. exploring sounds from a broad spectrum, *ms blue* is the moody opener that creates a melange of raw minimal jazz, while the b side continues in this vein with more of an obvious off-key german micro house influence. *considered done* references the late herbie hancock, sampling his voice over a flowing piano melody and punchy bass line, while *tribute to willy simon* goes all out funky, full of brass, with a classic hip hop swagger.

future times is proud to present a fascinating, brutal 12 inch from brazilian producer japa habilidoso, aka guerrhina from 40% foda/maneirissimo crew!! a side * funk do sindicalismo* goes for relentless, almost abusive rhythm collage, this cut is the most punk shit that ft has so far had the pleasure of releasing. ruff rugged n raw!!! the flip, * agronomia setorial* , cuts more dance and djshapes, and rides bugged piano loops and a collage of voices and noises to perfection. this is one for the mutants!

club cuts is the new release by gummihz. it features two dancefloor heavy tracks spanning from acid to dub house/ techno. on side a, aacid patch, is a serious dancefloor weapon with a characteristic killer tb 303 bassline and airy jazz piano licks, produced back in 2010. 8am groove, on the flip, is a dub cut that, in typical gummihz finese, rolls effortlesly between detroit house and techno. an excellent record cut for the dancefloor!

kensuke fukushima is an up and coming talent from japan. growing up heavily influenced by rock and jazz, he learned to play multiple instruments like lead and bass guitar as well as piano. he s had a few previous releases on labels such as onovu & leap records and was featured on a recent v/a ep on roundabout sounds entitled, fly pattern ep. label boss joe babylon reached out to detoit house legend d wynn to remix the title track. for those that don t already know, d wynn was the resident dj at the histroic music institute as well as tour dj for inner city. he s also one half of r-tyme with derrick may.

uk techno stalwart steve bicknells lost recordings series must be one of the longest running in dance music, the lost and cosmic founder has been putting out previous unheard material from his early 90s heyday on and off since 2004. there are few surprises on this 10th edition, but plenty of slamming, no-holds-barred grooves. the hissing, spacey, cymbal-heavy track 3 is particularly trippy, while theres a gnarled, ragged intensity about the pulsating heaviness of track 1. arguably best of all, though - ambient interlude track 2 aside - is track 4, an eerie techno shuffler built around a wonky, off-key electric piano loop and fizzing percussion.

it might be quite obvious to some of you that follow our little label that we have a thing for schatrax. some would call it an obsession but we simply call it a crush. lets face it, the man has made some of the most timeless deep house from these mighty shores that make up the british isles - what s not to love? so, here he is again with mists a track previously unreleased but unmistakably schatrax. submerged beats, a skippy groove and a simple effective riff are the essence of the track while keep on loving injects a glorious uplifting feel with a bouncing b-line and classic piano riff. flipsides the almighty keeps things deep whilst aliena s groove is one of schatrax s signature tracks with it s haunting melancholic riff keeping the emotions high.

to keep people guessing, the fifth instalment from australia s best selling people must jam label takes things in a house direction with andy ash at the controls. andy has put through an immense ep of varying house flavours to satisfy an all tastes. the ep kicks of with the monster disco vibed hurricane fantasy track. a beautiful summery looper that s sure to keep the floors burning hot! move is one of andy s straight up house cuts - which he is becoming well known for, a deep sounding organ line carrying the track forward with stabs and a nice little vocal sample to boot. mixing things up a little on the flip, our good friend - ron basejam has provided a sublime adriatic excursion remix of move . ron takes the track to a totally different place with uplifting piano lines and orchestral string stabs building to a lovely crescendo. this remix should be earmarked for croatia 2015. finally dommah takes the ep into almost techno territory with building pads and solid beats resulting in a monster track for when the strobelight pulses and the heads go down!

the second volume of bushwick is melting features original unreleased material by brooklyn-based producers black meteoric star, lorna dune, and j. slusher. gavin russom apparently has a new black meteoric start lp on the way and we can t wait based on the epic, sweeping grandness that is the 18 minute a-side hogger unearthed arcana which is quite hypnotic when in full flight. the b-side finds lorna dune putting her experiments with the piano to one side to focus on some celestial house moves with reflux which will appeal to fans of legowelts more star gazing moments whilst the wonderfully named j. slusher closes out the record with the face melting techno cut night train

the music strahil velchev alias kink creates for the 12-inch format is as playful and fanciful as it is functional and precise. his first outing for running back is no exception. inspired by the hardware of the same name, his cloud generator ep makes the most use of that. computer nerd symphonies and cyberpunk melodies for clubs, roofless raves and virtual racing games. wilhelm reich and william gibson would enjoy this. oh, and there is a breakbeat mix on here as well.

2016 repress , this is right up the alley of those who digged theo parrishs dance of the drunken drums: a hipnotic piano chord pattern sets the tone, while jerry the cat provides smoking live percussion and a walkin jazz bass bops effortlessly. the flipside dives even deeper into jazz territory with a jazz trumpet improvising over quirky percussion sounds.

nebraska is someone who’s tracks we’ve been loving for a good few years now and finally managed to pin him down for a release here on delusions of grandeur. the uk producer is something of an enigma, and despite some amazing releases on rush hour still remains resolutely underground and seems to keep his releases to a minimum, focusing on keeping the quality high rather than flooding the market with average material. once again, he brings the real deal with three drum-heavy warehouse jams to nice-up the dancefloor. aw-right (mute version) sets the tone with a raw house groove that keeps things stripped to the bare minimum. a bouncing bassline and rattling percussion break help to define the track but it’s the dusty, dubby approach to the mix which really makes the track shine. next up we have warp and weft, a similar sounding track but by dropping the bpm’s nebraska has created a sublime low-slung, bumpy groove to really move to. flipping over we’re treated to the brilliant eighty eights which will have you nodding your head like the churchill’s dog before you can say ‘looped up piano and bass one bar groove repeated for over eight and a half minutes shouldn’t work should it?’

messalina keeps up the pressure with another fantastic assortment of balearic gems including a heavy steel drum version of the classic *papa was a rolling stone*, plus *peace & war*, a throbbing afro disco groover with phat bass, funky synths, killer piano hook and a great positive message. its over to brazil on the flip with the brilliant *katarina*, a slo-mo chugger full of rio flavour edited to perfection by balearic maestro andy kidd with the promo already receiving a lot of attention in ibiza. lastly we have *crioula*, lucci capris floor friendly version of a lost jose roberto samba funk classic. top quality all the way.

its winter in detroit and fit siegel has given us * carmine*, a moody techno classic perfect for the lonely season. subtle, low-key and thumping, the title track revolves around a bittersweet piano lead, elegiac 303 and blade runner string swells. its a high-tech driving song in the tradition of model 500s low-key classic * pick up the flow* and fit sounds more assured than ever. * first found* is mills-ian jigsaw puzzle techno imbued with breathy and addictive humanity. stacatto, free-jazz informed piano solos lock into ping-pong synths -- eventually, a female vocal emerges over a bed of arpeggiated bass. loose yet robotic, * first found* is first-rate detroit techno mysticism. the record as a whole is a worthy entry into the motor citys storied canon from a leader of the new school.

for skylax 140, damien zala, of rowtag records fame, brings the heat with a new 6 track ep. it kicks off with an absolutely mad remix of * looking for the sun* by detroit legend, anthony shake shakir. the attention to detail is clear when it comes to someone who has been in the game for so long, and the rework he has done for damiens track is no exception. * the final break* is damiens first original on the record. a skippy, staccato affair in both its percussion and its disco/funk/soul sampling. *beauty is back* is damien taking things down a jazzier route, with a piano laden jazz sample and shuffling drums to match.on the flip, * always young* is an audacious disco edit, sampling such a treasured song that many would consider untouchable, luckily, damien works his magic to make an edit which gets people moving without being obvious. the ep closes out with * emotions* and the original version of * looking for the sun*, barely recognisable from the anthony shakir remix, in the best possible way! sweet & dirty indeed, dont miss this offering by the one and only damien zala.

get physicals first delivery for 2015 is, yet again, an ep that strays a bit off the beaten track. for this last installment, gpm290, junge junge has called upon australian native kyle pearce to set some velvety vocals to a toned-down, bittersweet delight of a track. the ‚beautiful girl ep opens with its namesake creation, a thumb piano-laden tune decorated by some seriously smoky singing just waiting to transport you far away. its followed by a handful of distinct reworkings, by audiofly who take on a dub remix and spins the song on its head to give it a new psychedelic identity. meanwhile, blond:ish throws it into darker terrain only to have the ‚beautiful girl lifted up by junge junge once again thanks to a slightly different version that turns it into danceable am epic by way of some wisely-placed kicks and claps.

lead track is - calle sevilla that immediately commands attention with it s locked tight groove, piano licks and warm rhodes keys that lead us to the mighty bassline and we re already feeling the intensity. a synth riff comes in and builds to the main break and creates an atmosphere that takes us on a trip to the sunshine coast of maybe ibiza, right before it drops back in!

celebrated and mercury-nominated uk duo rae & christian released their first new material for ten years in 2013 on night time stories/late night tales after spending the last decade meditating in a buddhist monastery in swindon. this year the label commissioned a series of remixes from mercury rising and mang dynasty (aka ray mang & bill brewster) take on favourite game featuring rising star of the swindon buddhist circuit jake emlyn. mang dynasty focus on gita langley s backing vocal hooks adding a chorus piano motif and stretch things out into an epic nine minute plus main version aimed squarely at the dancefloor (and afghanistan). jake emlyns more aurally-pleasing melodic parts are utilised towards the end taking things up another level to a happy finish. initial reactions have been so strong it seemed rude not to slip out a 12inch on mangled, home of the hits!

joe ashworth has marked himself out as one to watch over the past year with a string of underground cuts on waze & odysseys street tracks label, notably his collaboration with citizen, situation. he brings his textured, melodic sound to anjunadeep for the first time with debut release rebound / whatever weather. on rebound he showcases a nuanced approach, deftly blending strong techno influences with a delicate ear for melody. the twinkling, sometimes discordant keys that rise and fall throughout demonstrate an enviable maturity in joes productions. whatever weather is one for the dancefloor, revolving around an infectious bassline groove that rolls beneath crisp drums and more gorgeous flowing piano

mystery production unit dj bmx continue their thrilling, no-nonsense adventures in the underground with the conquest of gravity ep for mil. techno-fused roller -warrior within- gets matters underway as thumping bass and ticking hi hats form the fore of the track, marching along over off-kilter bleeps and succinct glitches. the rough n ready aesthetic of the track sets the tone excellently for the ep, leading coherently into -wonders of time- where slight changes and improvisations keep your attention, with dubbed out key jabs that are matched melodically against atmospheric synth pads whirling in and out over crisp percussion clicks. -spinning across the sky- maintains the inspiration for myriad sources, cosmic, dreamy chimes are sprinkled over a tentatively used piano sequence, distorted key kicks and muddied percussion. its the only moment on the ep to include a vocal, and its used beautifully as it floats around the tracks central structure, lending it a spacious and depth-charged feel. -radim world- finishes everything off with a touch of pepe bradock style elegance - the multi-layered arrangements are fluid and dynamic, resulting in well-executed deep house.
